DAY THREE
Another sound check first thing in the morning and all is good. Oh no... it's Sunday, leaving day... OK so up and at 'em and strip down the portable accommodation pack the truck and enjoy what time we had left of the day. There was no leaving until Hat Fitz and Itchy were seen so we have a fair slice of the day to catch up on other great doses of music. We caught up with Lustre in the Brass Monkey Stage area. Although the girls were quite talented even they were mesmerised by the Contact Improvisation dancers who were also enjoying their music. These dancers are mentioned in more detail on the Peats Ridge page. The sun had some bite in it today and the temp was climbing... time to chill in the shade for a while. The multi ARIA award nominee iOTA hit the Bellbird stage in the early afternoon and a few people who were also waiting for his performance exited the protection of the shady trees and braved the sun to be up close and personal to this amazing entertainer. iOTA was the largest crowd magnet from the festival that we had seen so far. The audience, it would appear, were a major quantity of iOTA fans and the mans show was an example of why. A captivating and laid back performance only enhancing some amazing singer/songwriter talent. Some of the better renditions being SHADOW LOVE, MELBOURNE SUMMER MILLION MILES and COME BACK TO ME. The time had come to catch Hatz and Itchy. Our What's On photog is a great fan of these guys and now I get it. What a team. Hat Fitz and Itchy performed in the Brass Monkey tent and aside from a few technical hitches they had the whole tent jumping with their raw, gritty blues. Tagged the ‘wild man' of Australian blues, Hatz and Itchy do some classics from the likes of Son House and Charley Patton . In particular Son Houses song DEATH LETTER BLUES was given the respect and the emotion that this classic blues song so well deserved by Hatz and Itchy's rendition. POOR BOY was another stand out performance and I was not only gob smacked by the movement these guys created but the fact that the audience appeared from nowhere and and from all genre of music lovers. Even if you aren't a great exponent of blues, check these guys out, it's music with attitude that creates motion and emotion. It was an awesome end to the festival I have to say. |
