CHAIN -Terrigal Country Club
CHAIN - The only Australian blues performers to have a number one hit song in Australia: Let that sink in - with the abundant talent we have and have had in this country performing all genres of music Chain will forever hold the glory of being unique in such an important way. It is so easy to see why this just is. From a packed car park to a full house, standing room only, it was exciting to see these gentleman still have the ability to pack them out.
The wonderful Phil Manning opened the evening with some of his solo work.. remembering that these fellows had played Bimbagden earlier in the day, traveled down and set up to do it all again I was curious as to where the energy came from - passion I figured.
Matt, Dirk and Barry joined Phil on the stage for set two and this is when more golden memories came flooding back. It was like being back there then but still being here in this now... just like remembering when I was young..
Matt Taylor still does his humourously interesting banter between songs and still oozes (well appears to) the energy from many prior stage performances. The expectant crowd were served "Black and Blue" (the number one single), "I Remember When I was Young" and "Saturday Night At The Trocadero" to name but a few.
Chain are a wonderful group of seasoned performers who still have their feet firmly planted. They appreciate their audience and are very approachable. This lil reporter was thrilled to finally get a photograph with Mr Manning. On a few occasions we have chatted and he has always been a perfect gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour.
As a side to the wonderful performance by Chain - thanks also go out to Gary Sinclair - Coastal Blues. Gary has presented some amazing blues performers here on the Coast and I for one would like to take this opportunity to say thanks for the persistent effort in keeping music alive on the Coast, sometimes against amazingly daunting barriers. Thanks Sinkerz!
