CRAIG STEWART - THE BIO |
CRAIG STEWART COUNTRY:
With the release of his second album ‘Bellbirds & Blackboys’ at the 2007 Gympie Muster, Craig Stewart has firmly established himself as one of the rising stars on the Australian country music scene.
Since putting his foot in the industry door with his debut album & single ‘The Spirit of Australia’, Craig has appeared as a feature act at the Tamworth, Gympie, Mildura and Norfolk Island country music festivals after having spent over a decade as an in-demand entertainer on the hotel, club MAIN STAGE – GYMPIE MUSTER and corporate circuit.
Craig’s songwriting has been likened to that of both Graeme Connors and John Williamson. No surprises really there as they were, and continue to be, two of his greatest musical influences.
The release of his debut album sparked critical acclaim, with the Country Music Capital News (known as the industry’s ‘bible’) describing Craig as 'one of the most listenable singers to emerge since the turn of the century'. The article went on to say 'Craig's songwriting abilities are equally superb - thirteen high quality tracks leave you wanting to hear more and more of this great performer - it is certain that Craig Stewart has a great future in country music'.
Numerous award nominations followed, including the 2006 Golden Saddle Award, the 2006 Mildura Rising Star Award and the 2006 ICE Male Vocalist of the Year Award.
Craig’s other achievements within the country music industry are a testament to not only his abilities as a songwriter, musician and entertainer, but also the belief the industry itself appears to have in his future.
The feedback Craig has received from the industry since his 2004-2006 Tamworth and Gympie appearances has been phenomenal, ensuring the next year will be busy, with plenty of writing and recording whilst still performing at a wide range of festivals and venues with ‘The Craig Stewart Band’. |
CRAIG STEWART - REVIEW |
CRAIG STEWART BELLBIRDS AND BLACKBOYS:
One of the other great things about coming from a large family is the amount of times you get tips regarding great entertainment.
One such tip was for Craig Stewart from my big brother.
Being more of a fan than a player big brother was astounded that someone of this calibre is NOT on rotation on radio and more widely known - "why is this so?" he asks. Long and cynical story..
Having the chance to catch up with Craig at a gig at Mingara, I could see the enthusiasm was well founded.
Craig and his band, Warren (guitar), Gary (bass guitar) and George (drums), were, as a whole very energetic and entertaining.
They had wonderful connections with the crowd. They obviously love their work.
As is the norm for original acts to get work in a 'covers' venue, Craig and his band had to throw in the obligatory 'cover' songs; Wow what a surprise choice. Craig and his band are basically a country band, the covers performed and done just as well as any cover band I have seen were... Long Cool Woman, Boys Light Up and All Night Long - what a mix!!!
From stirring aussie visions to simplistic piano/guitar backkdrops tales this album is not only entertaining in it's musical content but contains stories that, like a great book, keep your curiosity firmly in place.
From the humourous, to the historic to the heartfelt this CD is the personification of the Aussie sense we all have, particularly those on the land.
A point that raised my interest was the pioneering track "Streets and Headstones". It reminded me of the first time you recall asking "Why" as a child.
Craig and his band are excellent entertainment both in the live and recorded sense.
