JUBILA SINGERS OPEN ACCESS CHOIR:
JUBILA SINGERS – began in October 2011!
All who love singing and can “carry a tune in a bucket” are invited to join this choir for men and women.
We believe that music is essential to the human spirit and that singing promotes joy, fellowship and a sense of community.
The Jubila Singers are two vocal ensembles on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
One meets on Tuesday nights in Green Point and one meets Thursday mornings also in Green Point. The ensembles learn the same songs and join together for performances.
Our repertoire includes beautiful lush chorales from Russia as well as gorgeous pieces from Mozart and William Byrd. We also sing some unusual Appalachian gospel, delightfully ear-bending Czech folk-songs, riveting music from Georgia, stirring African hymns and Taize harmonies. We don’t shy away from a challenge and enjoy working towards producing an excellent choral sound. This year, 2014, we are participating in the Blackheath Choir Festival, the Tasmanian Festival of Voices and will perform in a charity concert in Gosford in October.
Music-reading skills and singing experience are great assets and many of our singers have those in abundance, but they are not necessary to participate.
Jubila Singers is directed by Jane Becktel, B.Mus (Hons), Dip.Ed. She also directs the beautiful voices in Zing! a women's choir singing sacred and classical works in Fountaindale on Wednesday afternoons.
