REVIEW - EVENT - PCYC OPEN DAY - UMINA |
PCYC UMINA OPEN DAY: February 18 2006:
Nestled amid the trees at the end of Osborne Street in Umina is the little hamlet of the Police Youth and Community Centre.
The centre provides an endless supply of activities for the local young residents and their families in a safe and happy environment.
The Umina PCYC has a well equipped pay as you go weight gym.
It also has boxing facilities for those wishing to learn and those wishing to practice. The centre itself boasts a professional style sound booth, stage and lighting. Scattered throughout the club are lounges to just sit and chill, x-Box games for the computer minded, pool tables, air hockey tables and a refreshment bar.
The regular activities Umina PCYC have are; gym sessions, tiny tots, boxing circuits, junior and senior boxing, school sports, traffic education, drama and discovery and the new monthly Pump dance parties.
The open day featured stalls and information vans from the Vietnam Veterans Association, State Emergency Services and The Central Coast Area Health youth services division to name but a few. There wasn't a bored bod in sight.
The musical entertainment was a huge draw card with local young bands, Vetna, All That Bleeds, 3 Days Ago and The Jimmy's entertaining a very crowded auditorium.
The Police Community and Youth Clubs are the perfect answer to the question, "what can we do? We're bored". With responsible staff and a youth friendly atmosphere these clubs are a terrific way to help keep the kids entertained, enthused and show them all possible avenues of their own potential and outlook. There are plenty of flyers and knowing minds there to assist the kids with contacts for all kinds of family situations as well. These clubs are the parents answer for somewhere to let their kids go and know they will be OK.
There are two PCYC's on the Central Coast -
UMINA - 101 Osborne Street Umina and
BATEAU BAY - The Entrance Road, Bateau Bay (opposite Bay Village) |
